The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Bioterror Rapid Response and Advanced Technology Lab has resigned.  Michael Farrell has been with the laboratory since 2009. The CDC confirms he turned in his resignation yesterday.

Farrell was director of the lab where dozens of CDC workers were potentially exposed to live anthrax in June. Nobody got sick. Safety breaches were found inside that lab. He was reassigned after that incident.

Head of the CDC Dr. Tom Frieden had said there would be disciplinary action taken against anyone who knowingly violated safety protocols or knew about it but failed to report breaches.

Following that incident, others were discovered at different labs. Dr Frieden saying some labs that handle dangerous germs  are plagued with systemic safety problems and changes are being made.
