Arrest in hit-and-run of Gwinnett teen

A Gwinnett County woman is now facing charges in the hit-and-run of a Brookwood High School student last week.

Police say 29-year-old Amanda Simpson turned herself into police Wednesday afternoon. She is facing felony hit-and-run and three misdemeanor charges. Bond was set at $4,000.

According to arrest warrants, Simpson was driving a 2013 Dodge Journey when she hit 15-year-old Myles Bonn who was riding his bicycle along Dogwood Road. Witnesses described a white woman with blond hair get out of a gray SUV, check the damage to her vehicle, and then drive off.

The warrants list a Lilburn address for Simpson, less than six miles from the scene of the accident.

Bonn says police delivered the news to him and his mother.

“The officer said that she told a friend, and her friend told her to turn herself in... so she wouldn’t get in any more trouble,” he tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.

Bonn had to have surgery on his broken elbow Monday and still has staples in the back of his head and road rash all over his body.

But he says he holds no ill will towards Simpson.

“I definitely don’t have hate in my heart or anything like that. I don’t wish bad things upon her at all. I’m just glad we can all get over this,” says Bonn.
