UPDATE:

Gwinnett County Police have identified two people killed in an accident overnight on Satellite Boulevard.

A third passenger in the backseat was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer was not seriously hurt.

Police say neither alcohol nor drugs was a factor in the accident.  So far no charges have been filed.

Earlier details from Channel 2:

Two people are dead and a third is in critical condition after a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Gwinnett County.

The crash happened on Satellite Boulevard near Old Peachtree Road late Wednesday night.

Gwinnett County police told Channel 2's Darryn Moore the truck hit a Chrysler PT Cruiser on Satellite Boulevard. The truck then jumped the curb, took out part of a guard rail and landed inside a wooded area.

The driver and front seat passenger in the PT Cruiser were killed. The back seat passenger is in critical condition.

"He (the truck driver) was northbound on Satellite Boulevard, the PT Cruiser was westbound on Shawnee Industrial Boulevard, attempted to cross Satellite Boulevard or turn left to southbound when the accident occurred," Gwinnett County police Sgt. Brian Doan said.

The truck hit several trees on its way down the embankment. The impact destroyed the truck's engine, but the driver was not hurt.

A huge tow truck used cables to pull the wrecked tractor-trailer from about 30 feet into the wooded area.

Police have not released the names of the victims. No charges are expected to be filed.
