Gov. Deal backs plan to name flyover after Captain Herb

A state lawmaker says he plans to introduce legislation to name the new flyover bridge at GA 400 and I-85 after Capt. Herb Emory.

Sen. Mike Dugan (R-Carrollton) says he will pre-file the legislation for next year’s legislative session.

“Herb Emory was a longtime Douglas County resident who always put others before himself,” says Sen. Dugan in a statement.  “By renaming the I-85 and Georgia 400 interchange in his honor, his legacy will be remembered by those he safely guided home each day.”

Gov. Nathan Deal says he supports the effort.  He met Emory for the first time April 2 at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new interchange.

“He was a very interesting person,” Deal tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.  “He was just like you heard him on the radio; he was just that way in person.”
