LIFT gets the Christmas miracle they needed

By Jennifer Griffies

They needed a Christmas miracle and it looks like their prayers were answered.  Late last month, someone broke into a storage facility in College Park filled with toys meant for needy children and took 90 percent of the merchandise.

Shurnetha Russell, Volunteer Coordinator for LIFT (Life. Integrity.  For Truth.) tells WSB there has been an outpouring of support from the entire community.

"Oh my goodness, the response from the community has been overpouring with love and uniting," said Russell.

On Tuesday, WSB's sister station KISS 104.1FM, held an event to raise money and get toys for the more than 300 families in need and it helped push them to their goal.

"We have received almost 200 pieces of toys, $2,200 in monetary donations.  The community has really come out and they've really, really reached us here at LIFT and we are almost to our goal, almost there.  I have to think we're gonna make our goal," said Russell.

People from all over metro Atlanta have opened their hearts and wallets.

"I didn't know there was so much love in the counties of Fulton County, Gwinnett County, Cobb County. They came from Kennesaw.  I mean, it was just like almost like wow.  There is just no words to describe it," said Russell.

LIFE CEO Barbara McKee says it's not only people's generosity that she is grateful for.

"People know we're here now.  They know about our GED classes, they know about our food pantry, they know about the things that we do here at LIFT; otherwise, they may have never known," said McKee.

All of the items will be handed out to the children on December 20th.  Russell says they could still use items for girls between 10-14.

Donations can be taken to the LIFT warehouse, 5134 Old National Hwy College Park, GA, or call (770) 997-6363 for items to be picked up.
