Parents in DeKalb County spoke...and the school board listened. Now the so-called "balanced" schedule has been placed on the shelf.
The schedule takes time away from summer break in order to give more vacation in the fall and spring. A recent survey of DeKalb parents showed plenty hated that plan.
The new school board voted unanimously, Monday, to scrap it and go back to the traditional schedule.
Former Superintendant Cheryl Atkinson pushed for the balanced schedule, saying the longer the summer, the more children will forget.
But school officials and parents complained the change was made without their blessing.
The traditional schedule will run through at least Fall of 2014.
