Three people have been in arrested for breaking into several cars in metro Atlanta.
Gwinnett County Police Corporal Jake Smith tells WSB on March 21st, two women called to say the windows of their cars had been smashed and their purses stolen from their vehicles while they were at Gold's Gym on Duluth Highway.
"Now we believe that these suspects were likely there on purpose and observing people and watching for them in particular to leave their valuables in the car," said Smith.
Smith says the suspects took the women's credit cards and immediately used them to buy gift cards. The officers tracked the suspects when they tried to use those cards. Surveillance video from some of those stores helped police identify those suspects.
Police soon learned that Tonya Evans, 25, Kenneth Jackson, 32, and Brandon Graham, 26, had already been arrested in Cobb County for three car break-ins at an LA Fitness.
"We have five cases right now but we're looking into some other aspects that may lead to more and possibly many more, cases against these people," said Smith.
Smith says they're also trying to determine if the suspects just started their crime spree or if they have been doing this for some time.
"With these types of crimes, there is no reason for them not to do several in a day. They might spend a normal eight hour day, driving around, and breaking into cars in different places," said Smith.
