A bank robbery suspect has been arrested after police say he tried to hide at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Fulton County Police Corporal Kay Lester tells WSB the suspect, who has not yet been identified, robbed the Bank of America at 5199 Old National Highway around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.
When police spotted his car a short time later, he led them on a chase that ended at the airport where the suspect jumped out and ran inside.
"I would say he went to the airport as a way to escape however, it did not help him in this case," said Lester.
A massive search was conducted inside the airport but he wasn't arrested until he returned to the getaway vehicle.
"We believe the money was inside of the vehicle. That vehicle has been taken to our criminal investigation division for processing," said Lester.
Police are trying to determine if he may be responsible for other bank robberies in the area.
