Crossing guard struck by vehicle

A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office crossing guard was injured while directing traffic at an elementary school on Tuesday afternoon.

Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office tells WSB the officer was on Bells Ferry Road directing traffic at Liberty Elementary when he was hit by a car.  The driver took off.

"It is described as a silver Honda Prelude driven by a white male that had on a black hat, black shirt, and sunglasses," said Baker. The letter "T" is also on the back window of the car.

The guard, who has not been identified, was taken to Northside Cherokee Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

"Unfortunately, you know, this is the second crossing guard we've had hit in less than a year.

We had one struck at the end of last year at Hickory Flat Elementary.  Hopefully, this isn't a trend that is starting to happen," said Baker.

The guard in that case also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
