Cumming, GA - The operator and co-founder of a Forsyth County charity is charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars.
The Georgia Martial Arts Foundation in Cumming was set up for kids with substance abuse problems.
Instead, Jessica Regas is charged with pocketing anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million.
Family friend Dennis Scheib defends Regas on Channel 2 Action News, but doesn't deny what happened.
"She just got caught up in a situation that got out of hand," said Scheib. "She doesn't offer any excuses for it."
Regas reached a plea deal. She must pay back $600,000, and could get up to 10 years in prison.
