A Cherokee County woman described by authorities as “vicious” and “brutal” is now behind bars in Florida.
Karen King, 52, is accused of ordering five men - including her three sons - to beat her live-in boyfriend, Lyndon Smith, nearly to death. The men were then supposed to dispose of Smith’s body across the state line.
“Once in Alabama, the vehicle was stopped by Alabama authorities and the victim was discovered in the trunk,” said Lt. Jamie Gianfala with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Smith suffered extensive injuries including broken bones, lacerations and head wounds. He was in a coma when discovered by authorities in Alabama, Gianfala said. Five people were arrested, but King eluded capture. She was featured on the television show “America’s Most Wanted,” described as the “mastermind” behind her boyfriend’s attack.
King was arrested over the weekend in Indian River, Florida. She’s now awaiting extradition to Cherokee County.
