ATLANTA - Let the games begin!
That declaration from the World Congress Center… the Final Four gets underway Friday.
“For the next few days, the world will be focused on Atlanta as much as it has, I think, since the Olympics in 1996,” said former Atlanta Mayor and UN Ambassador Andrew Young, putting this weekend into perspective.
It’s a weekend this town has been preparing for since 2011. Never has a city hosted all three divisions of the Final Four at once. More than 100,000 people are flooding into Atlanta for the biggest event in college basketball.
And if that isn’t enough pressure for Mayor Kasim Reed and Police Chief George Turner, don’t forget the Braves, the Hawks and Mary Poppins at the Fox.
“We will handle everything this weekend in a comfortable fashion that will make the people of Atlanta proud,” Reed promised.
