Accused cop impersonator charged in multiple armed robberies

The man police were after for impersonating a police officer in Gwinnett County now faces a string of charges in multiple jurisdictions.
Matthew Buddin was arrested Wednesday following a police chase that began not far from the Rite Aid he was accused of robbing at gunpoint the day before.
Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish the 34-year-old is now charged with four armed robberies since November, two at that same Rite Aid and two at a nearby Walgreens.
“Each one of these four he was only after pills particularly Tramadol and Xanax,” he says.
Police suspect Buddin was using the robberies to support his own drug habit.  But due to the large quantities taken, investigators also believe he may have sold some of the drugs.
Buddin is also accused of robbing the same Walgreens in the city of Duluth twice as well as charges of impersonating an officer in both Lawrenceville and Forsyth County.  He’s also facing shoplifting charges in Lawrenceville.
Buddin is due to make his first court appearance in Gwinnett County later this morning.
