ATLANTA (AP) A man fleeing Atlanta police was shot in the torso outside the Fulton County Courthouse.
Atlanta Police Detective Anthony Gentile said officers were chasing a white Toyota that screeched to a halt in front of the courthouse Wednesday afternoon. The man driving the car then took off on foot, and Gentile says police followed him for about 100 yards.
The detective says after a short pursuit, police fired two shots and hit the man in the lower torso.
Gentile said the man, identified as 21-year-old Emanuel Uzowihe, had a gun but did not fire it. He said Uzowihe was taken to Grady Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Courthouse officials said the shooting was not related to the court.
