(WSB Radio) He's the former commander of the Georgia National Guard. Now, David Poythress wants to be Georgia's governor.
Saying he can pull support from moderate Republicans and independent voters, Poythress has become the first Democrat to enter into the 2010 race for governor.
In addition to commanding the Guard, Poythress is a former state labor commissioner and Georgia secretary of state. He was first appointed adjutant general of the Georgia guard by Governor Roy Barnes. Republican Governor Sonny Perdue reappointed him and made him the first three-star general in the Georgia guard's history.
The only Republican candidate to announce for the 2010 race is Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine.
