ELLIJAY, Ga. (AP) Gilmer County sheriff's deputies say they arrested the leader of an alleged dogfighting ring and seized 11 dogs and suspected fighting paraphernalia in a raid near Ellijay.

Officials say Gerald Holcomb was charged Thursday with felony dogfighting, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana.

According to the Humane Society and District Attorney Joe Hendricks, several of the dogs had scars consistent with fighting.

It was the second raid in north Georgia in about a month. On July 17, authorites said they found 22 pit bulls and dogfighting pits at Mountain Swamp Kennels in Blue Ridge.
