(WSB Radio) -- Just three months after he signed the Water Conservation and Drought Relief Act into law, Governor Perdue is shifting $40 million in water grants and $10 million in land conservation grants to other essential government services and programs.
Shane Hix with the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority tells WSBs Sandra Parrish, We still have plenty of resources for loans to local governments at a very low interest rate that can help them with water supply projects in their area.
Hix says 13 local governments were in the process of applying for those grants.
Lawrenceville Mayor Rex Milsap says his city just approved its budget that included the grant money for a new water treatment facility. The timing couldnt be worse because if we had known three weeks ago, we could have planned for it in the special local option sales tax referendum and funded some of it through that.
Milsap says the state puts usually puts mandates in place with a source of funding. He says the mandates remain, but the funding is now gone.

- State Cuts Water Grany MoneyHere's one for our Governor. I paid my first installment of property taxes on 8/14/08 even though it is not due till 9/15/08 as of today 9/22/08 the county has not cashed the check meaning they could be gaining interest $$$ to help the deficit and all the cut backs our Governor is talking about. I guess our state government doesn't understand basic accounting nor does it act like a normal business.
