I'm not going to sit here and complain about our schedule this season. We all got a good look at it back in February. That's the hand Tech was dealt. To be honest, when Paul Johnson first got to the Institute, I said Tech would be fortunate to win 6 games that year (2008). We all know how that ended. Tech beat Miami, Clemson, UGA, and went on to finish the season with a 9-4 record. I was a believer after that season and I still am now.
This year though, Tech has to face not one, not two, but three of its main Coastal Division opponents in a row: North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Miami. This is going to be a tough three week stretch for the boys in Gold and White. There are no more off weeks for the rest of the season. If Tech is going back to Charlotte, they are going to have to dig deep and play like there's no tomorrow.
Larry Fedora believes he has the Tar Heels going in the right direction. I don't have any reason to doubt his optimism. In his first season, North Carolina went 8-4 while knocking off both Miami and Virginia Tech. He has a great quarterback in Bryn Renner. He is close to 7000 yards passing for his career and has an arm that NFL scouts really like. The up-tempo offense Fedora has brought to Chapel Hill along with his solid recruiting should keep North Carolina in the coastal fight yearly.
Nothing would please me more to see Tech play lights out on both sides of the ball Saturday. I've heard all summer how UNC's defense has been looking for a little revenge after Tech put up 68 points. Well if I'm Tech's defense, I got something to prove too because they put up 50 points.
Kickoff's at high noon on The Flats on Saturday. Let's get it started.
How do you feel about Saturday's game? Will it be a barn burner or a street fight?
