The Atlanta World Kite Festival and Expo was established to fill a void and to encourage the social and recreational partnering of the citizens of the city. As conceived by its originator, Joe Rowell, the festival was built on the premise of cultural awareness and community building. The Festival will use the common love of kite flying to bring people together and to discover their common bonds. The Atlanta World Kite Festival and Expo was born out of a desire to recreate some of the nostalgia that is familiar with growing up in a city that welcomes cultural diversity. The Atlanta World Kite Festival and Expo is a byproduct of a group of individuals that have decided to make a unique and positive contribution to their city. Beyond the basic goals, they also strive to create yet another means of educating young people and adults about art, engineering, fellowship, and other cultures by creating an opportunity to sit, learn and share.Kites, food, costume contests, pumkin decorating, dance contest and family are some of the activities that can be enjoyed. Atlanta World Kite Festival and Expo uses that forum to celebrate family, diversity and promote peace. The Festival will be held annually every 4th Saturday in October, to promote protection of the planet, peace, friendship and understanding between all people. This year the date is Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 12 noon 'til 5 pm.
