Topic: Future of Atlanta Entertainment IndustrySummary: What is the present and future opportunity for developing Atlanta’s entertainment Industry. What is needed? What will be the forecasted economic impact? Infrastructure requirements for facilities and trained work force? Who are the stakeholders and what is the process for developing a sustainable entertainment industry infrastructure? Speaker Bio Matthew is one of the world’s foremost authorities on government-provided incentive programs for film and television production. Matt joined Pacifica Ventures LLC in 2004, shortly after the acquisition of the Culver Studios was completed, and was a part of the team that evaluated and reorganized the studio operations at that facility. In 2005 he led Pacifica Venture LLC’s advance team in New Mexico, eventually negotiating the land purchase agreement for Albuquerque Studios and paving the way through the planning process for that studio in record time. In 2006 he was promoted to Vice President of the company and with Dana Arnold led the team that won the public tender process to take over and redevelop Elstree Studios near London, only to have the transaction disrupted by serious environmental issues. Since then, he has been instrumental in the financing and planning for Pacifica Venture LLC’s new facilities in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, and has led the development team for Pacifica Venture LLC’s joint venture project in the UK. Prior to joining Pacifica Ventures LLC, Matthew spent several years in motion picture business affairs at Sony Studios. Previously, he was an award-winning independent filmmaker and theatrical producer, with short films that he wrote, produced and directed shown at film festivals around the world (Gold Medal, Worldfest Houston; CINE Golden Eagle; Best Director, Festival du Mons, Belgium; etc.). His theatrical productions were favorably reviewed in the Los Angeles Times and he was personally awarded a Dramalogue Award in 1994. His varied background also includes working “below-the-line” as a production (on set) sound mixer for 10 feature films. Matthew holds a B.A. in History from Vassar College and an M.A. in
Communication/Film from Stanford University. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and son.
