United States Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey reads excerpts from her newest book, Thrall: Poems, as the first speaker in Georgia State University’s Centennial Speaker Series. The reading will be followed by a book signing and reception. Trethewey, who won a Pulitzer Prize for her 2006 work, “Native Guard,” was appointed the 19th U.S. Poet Laureate in June 2012. She is the Robert W. Woodruff Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University, and is also the poet laureate of Mississippi. Trethewey has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Study Center, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Bunting Fellowship Program of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.
