The second Symposium on Computation + Journalism will be held at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta on Jan 31 – Feb 1, 2012. As computer-driven forces like automation and aggregation increasingly alter the role of journalists and journalism in society, how can computation become a force of deliberate, positive social impact in journalism and in the rest of civic life? This meeting comes five years after the first Symposium. Again it brings together leaders in both journalism and computing research to discuss and debate current trends and future opportunities. By having our conference at Georgia Tech, an active center of computing research, we expect a lively discussion about the media, interface and infrastructure technologies that are changing journalism and the audiences for it.There is no cost to attend if you register before Friday, January 11 at 11:55 p.m. It will cost $20.00 to attend if you register after the deadline. The Symposium will begin on Thursday 11 a.m. The first day ends with an evening reception. We will begin again on Friday morning, go through lunch, and finish at 5 p.m.Speakers include:Maneesh Agrawala (UC Berkeley)Alberto Cairo (University of Miami)Deborah Estrin (Cornell Tech)Hany Farid (Dartmouth)Eric Gilbert (Georgia Tech)James T.
