Powerful global forces are now at work that have critical implications for the Jewish people, Israel, and the role of the United States as a world leader and Israel's best (only?) friend. These unprecedented simultaneous, cataclysmic changes include: (1) a shift of power and influence from the U.S. and Europe to the emerging powers in Asia (China, India, etc.) and Latin America (Brazil, etc.); (2) globalization and the new information age; (3) the conflict within the Muslim world between forces for progress and forces for destruction; (4) new types of security challenges (e.g. cyber warfare, chemical weapons); and (5) the rise of a new antisemitism and anti-Zionism. We will use Atlanta native, Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat's just-published book - The Future of the Jews - as the basic text for our own analysis and discussion of these forces.
