The program will 1) discuss various funding grantsavailable to all types of libraries and 2) advise participants on how to prepareand present quality grant proposals. The presenters will be Stephen Shermanand Diana Very. Stephen Sherman serves as reference librarian for the Foundation Center'sAtlanta library/learning center, where he manages the library’s uniquecollection of print and online resources on fundraising and nonprofitmanagement and connects nonprofit patrons with the resources they needto build strong and effective organizations. Established in 1956, theFoundation Center is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated tostrengthening the social sector by advancing knowledge about philanthropyin the U.S. and around the world. Diana Very is a librarian and a doctoral candidate in the school of PublicAdministration at Valdosta State University. With 16 years of experience instate agencies and the last seven in state libraries, her positions ofadministering LSTA grants and working with public library statistics fosteredher involvement in all aspects of library services. The focus of her research islibrary culture and organizational environments of libraries as public agencies.
